Anthea Epelle (B.1972, United Kingdom) is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria. She completed a BA in Fashion design and technology from the London College of Fashion. Epelle’s work is greatly informed by Nigerian Narratives, identity and beauty of the human form. Working predominately with oil paints, there is a fundamental balance between figuration and abstraction. Her forms alternate between rigid textures and delicate areas of translucency creating a powerful sense of movement and alignment. As she focuses on her artistic process, Epelle is able to speak life through her vibrant colour palette and thick brush strokes– allowing a sense of discovery for the viewer that leads to beauty and warmth.
