
Reuben Ugbine was born in Nigeria in 1956. He attended Auchi Polytechnic in 1976, where he received an Ordinary National Diploma, and the Principal’s prize for the overall best student. He later received a HND in sculpture from Yaba College of Technology in 1979 and became an instructor and lecturer at Auchi Polytechnic.
Upon becoming a full-time studio artist in 1987, he designed and executed several carvings, terracottas, sculptural figures, metal railings and other art works for private commissions during his lifetime. He also exhibited in solo and group shows across Africa and internationally in; Lebanon, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands and South Africa. Ugbine also participated in the ‘Transcending Boundaries’ exhibitions in London in 2013 and 2014.
Ugbine was a member of the Society of Nigerian Aritsts (SNA) and the Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA).
He is survived by his wife Perpetual, his three sons & daughter; Ogaga, Karo, Kome & Jessica.
