Daniel Olumide

My technique involves the adept use of relatively small, thin, yet noticeable brush strokes, to create cinematic and animated compositions.

Olumide Daniel O. (b. 1992, Nigeria) is a Visual Artist whose figurative paintings evoke the emotive depth and assertive energy inherent in the black experience.

As a Nigerian Artist originally from Oyo State, but living and working in Lagos,  his work incorporates representations of these localities allowing for an intuitive practice that connects his work to everyday people. By creating large scale compositions with a central figure, his painting evokes a stillness that entrances the viewer; while highlighting the many layers of Blackness.

Using oil and acrylic as his primary mediums, his works reflect a masterful exploration of light and  texture, showcasing his ability to convey the dynamism and diversity of the African identity. His technique involves the adept use of relatively small, thin, yet noticeable brush strokes, creating an mesmerising  impasto effect that contributes to the visual richness of his paintings. With a keen eye for detail, the musicality of his paintings engenders very cinematic characters, alive and animated.

His artistic journey commenced at the Polytechnic in Ibadan, where he earned his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in 2013, followed by further studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, culminating in a B.A. in Fine Art with a painting major in 2018.
