O’DA Art Gallery is pleased to present, Other-Worldly, a group exhibition featuring new and recent works by Anthony Nsofor, Kafana Soro, Kwaku Osei Owusu Achim, Ousmane Bâ, Simon Ojeaga and Soji Adesina.
With an alluring body of work, these artists, in their individual creative language, depict their viewpoint of existence and forms of being. Covering social and environmental themes, to expressions of individualism, strength and identity through an imaginary lens; each artist’s use of colour and medium is emboldened by their well-defined choice of form and expressive shapes.
As Kwaku Osei Achim’s visual language is informed by the communication of sign language and expressions of individualism, Ousmane Bâ’s technique of using Japanese Mineral pigment and sum creates a new philosophy and vision of the world on paper. Simon Ojeaga & Soji Adesina portray alternative depictions of male portraiture by distorting the features of the face and creating new possibilities through expressive hues and lines. While Anthony Nsofor’s work creates a new visual language to rewrite African ideologies, Kafana Soro sculptures are made from encountering trees and exploring the mysteries that each try to reveal in their own way.
This group exhibition seeks to challenge the perception of the world we see today by addressing the true nature of our human identity and presenting it in a renewed and unearthly representation.
